Common terms in the Calgary approval process.
- Tenancy Change
- A City of Calgary process to confirm that a new business occupying a commercial space is permitted under the Land Use Bylaw. Distinct from a Development Permit.
- Change of Use
- When a space changes from one Land Use Bylaw category to another (e.g. retail to restaurant). Almost always triggers a Development Permit.
- ePermit
- The City of Calgary portal for building permits, trade permits, and some other approvals. Separate from Apply.Calgary.ca.
- Apply.Calgary.ca
- The City of Calgary portal for development permits, business licences, location approval, and tenancy changes.
- Location Approval
- City of Calgary verification that a business activity is permitted at a specific address under the Land Use Bylaw. Required before a Business Licence can issue.
- AHS
- Alberta Health Services. Issues Food Establishment Permits for restaurants and food-handling businesses. Separate from City of Calgary approvals.
- AGLC
- Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis. Issues liquor licences for Alberta businesses. Independent timeline from City of Calgary approvals.
- LUB / 1P2007
- Land Use Bylaw 1P2007 — the City of Calgary's primary zoning bylaw governing what business activities are permitted in which zones.
